These matcha pancakes are so earthy and delicious. The matcha and the dark chocolate pair well with the banana and oat base to create a harmoniously hearty and sweet breakfast. It’s plant-based, healthy, and super tasty!

Simple Matcha Pancakes

I bought matcha powder because I can finally make some real matcha lattes. I work at a coffee shop and have the barista skills (and tools) to properly steam milk and do all of the things necessary for the perfect drink.

I also bought this matcha knowing I was going to give up coffee for a week.

I do this every now and then to reset my taste buds. Of course, matcha still has caffeine as it is a concentrated green tea, but in comparison to the amount of coffee I was drinking, it was significantly less.

The matcha was delicious, but I don’t love drinking “milky” things – even if it is almond milk. I tried drinking it on it’s own and it just wasn’t the same as my beloved black coffee.

But I wasn’t going to let this matcha go to waste, so I thought, why not throw it in a batch of our 3 ingredient pancakes?

And let me tell you, it was a fantastic idea.

I just took the original recipe, added 2 tsp of matcha powder and dark chocolate chips and wa-la! Green pancakes! Those are healthy right?

(Good thing they really are.)

I really love how quick and simple these are and how I can eat them without feeling crappy afterward. Bananas and oats can be sneaky in taste but trust me, it really is healthy!

We topped half of ours with peanut butter and left the other half plain.

We also used honey instead of maple syrup for a switch up! It was pretty tasty.

  • 2 Bananas ripe
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4-1/2 cup almond milk other milk alternative
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • dark chocolate chips vegan
  • 2 tbsp matcha powder
  • peanut butter (optional)
  • maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tbsp earth balance vegan butter (optional for topping or cooking)


  1. Blend banana, oats, milk, and matcha in blender (start with a small amount of milk and add more as necessary) until you get a thick and creamy base

  2. Stir in dark chocolate chips

  3. Heat a pan over medium heat with 1 tsp of coconut oil or vegan butter (to start) - add more as you cook new pancakes

  4. Pour no bigger than palm sized batter in the pan and golden brown on both sides

  5. Top with peanut butter (optional), maple syrup or honey!
